About us

Opening yourself up to a stranger takes great courage, especially when you’re feeling anxious, hopeless or overwhelmed. Nicola’s experience and the high standards she expects from every therapist-in-training are there to make sure that your trust is well placed.

Dr Nicola Walker

Director of Group-CBT Community Interest Company

Nicola has spent close to 50 years working in learning difficulties and mental health services. She has developed expertise across roles most therapists never combine.  She started as a nursing assistant in a residential school for children with cerebral palsy, then trained first as a Mental Health Nurse, then went on to become a Couples Counsellor, Psychosexual Therapist, Group Analyst and Cognitive Behaviour Therapist.  She has amassed a breadth of clinical understanding that few therapists ever develop over a career.

Nicola holds a Practitioner Doctorate in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and is accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies as a practitioner, trainer and supervisor, which is one of the highest standards a CBT professional can hold in the UK. She was awarded a Senior Fellowship by Advance HE [Academy of Higher Education] in 2024.

Nicola has spent many years building group and couples psychotherapy services from scratch, including specialist interventions for people with eating disorders and personality disorders and people experiencing high conflict and situational violence in couples relationships. She now works as an Honorary Consultant Group Psychotherapist for the North London NHS Foundation Trust.

Meet Our CBT Therapists In Training

Nicola has spent her career watching good therapy stay just out of reach for the people who often need it the most.  Private CBT can cost more than many people can justify, and cost alone can be enough to stop someone reaching out at all.  She set up Low-Cost CBT to close that gap.  Meet the team of therapists-in-training whom you’ll be working with.

Our Therapists in Training

Every session you have sits inside a careful structure, one where oversight happens at every stage, not just at the start. Nicola reviews the work of every therapist you might see, discusses your progress with them directly, and brings decades spent both practising and teaching CBT to bear in how your care is shaped.  You won’t meet her in the room, but her clinical judgement and expertise is present in every decision your therapist makes.

The therapists delivering your sessions are working towards full accreditation of a professional body, learning under Nicola or under other BABCP-accredited practitioners who hold the same standard.  That structure is what makes the lower cost possible. Expert supervision, not experience alone, is what supports the effectiveness and safety of your therapy.  It’s a different way of delivering the same standard, not a lesser one.

Every therapist-in-training carries full insurance and membership of a professional body, matching what you’d expect from any fully qualified practitioner.

We want you to understand exactly how our model works.  Knowing who’s closely supervising your care, and why the price reflects the structure rather than the standard, should make your decision to work with us easier, not harder.
